The Canadian firm has expanded its North Asia team with two senior appointments.

RBC Wealth Management, part of Royal Bank of Canada, has hired two new senior relationship managers, Joanna Koo and Gala Shiu, as directors within its Singapore-based North Asia team.

The duo report to North Asia team head, David Tan, joining a team which focuses particularly on Greater China. Both professionals join from United Overseas Bank, RBC said in a statement.

Koo is a banking industry veteran with nearly 25 years’ experience, most recently as senior client advisor at United Overseas Bank. She previously held relationship manager roles at Coutts and DBS Private Banking. Shiu has nearly 15 years’ experience, having worked at HSBC Private Bank (Suisse), DBS and United Overseas Bank. Both specialise in serving North Asian clients, the bank said.

“These are two senior and experienced relationship managers who will greatly enhance our coverage of the North Asia market from Singapore. The expansion of this team, together with our Southeast Asia team, which focuses on Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, is very much in tandem with the growth of the high net worth population and their wealth in the region,” Grace Barki, head of RBC Wealth Management, Southeast Asia, said.

Among other recent moves, RBC Wealth Management in February hired Juan Aronna as head of discretionary investment management. He was previously head of investment management for Singapore and head of the portfolio management hub for Asia-Pacific at UBS. In August, the firm added a managing director and co-head of brokerage and futures to its Hong Kong office. Joel Goh assumed both roles and joined fellow co-head David Ka. The pair report to Michael Yong-Haron, managing director and head of RBC Wealth Management in North Asia.
