European Banking Group Makes Three Top-Line Asia Appointments

Published by WealthBriefing – 1st April 2015

BNP Paribas Wealth Management has made three new appointments in what the French firm said is a realignment of its management resources to better deliver growth in the Asia region.

Ernest Leung will assume an additional role as chief executive for Wealth Management Singapore and keeps his role of chief operating officer for BNP Paribas Wealth Management Asia-Pacific.

“This dual role will enable him to further enhance the bank’s business development plans and infrastructure support across Asia-Pacific, while continuing to drive franchise growth in Singapore,” BNP Paribas said in a statement today.

Leung reports to Mignonne Cheng, chairman and CEO, BNP Paribas Wealth Management Asia-Pacific, and to Pierre Veyres, regional head for Southeast Asia and CEO, BNP Paribas Singapore branch.

Arnaud Tellier has been named head of investment services, Asia-Pacific, based in Singapore. He will work with relationship managers in the region to strengthen the bank’s product capabilities so as to meet clients’ needs and demands for investment ideas.

A veteran of BNP Paribas, Tellier has more than 20 years of experience in the banking industry. He has held a number of senior positions within the group across Europe and Asia, including the post of CEO of Wealth Management Singapore since 2013. He reports to Cheng and locally to the CEO of Wealth Management Singapore as well as Olivier Maugarny, global head of investment services.

Stephanie Lair has been appointed head of the Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia markets and is based in Singapore. She will spearhead business development in these key markets. She was most recently head of investment services, Asia-Pacific. She succeeds Serge Forti, who has recently retired, and reports to Cheng and to the CEO of Wealth Management Singapore.

“These appointments demonstrate our commitment to harness proven global and regional strengths with product capabilities that provide clients with a relevant range of investment solutions. I am confident that we can fully leverage on their combined expertise to create sustainable value for our clients and to support the future growth of our wealth management business in Asia,” Cheng said.

All appointments mentioned above are effective immediately.

In December last year, this publication reported that the wealth management arm of BNP Paribas appointed Clarence T’ao as head of emerging Asian markets. He is based in Hong Kong and the role was a newly-created one.

Before taking up this role, T’ao had been the chief executive of BNP Paribas (China), a role he held since 2010. He is a veteran of the bank, having held senior roles as regional head of loan syndication Asia-Pacific and co-regional head of structured finance in Asia. Prior to joining BNP Paribas, he was with Citicorp International and Chase Manhattan Bank.
