Custody specialist moves from J.P. Morgan to RBC

RBC Investor and Treasury Services has recruited its second senior custody specialist from J.P. Morgan in the space of a month as the firm strengthens its operations in Asia Pacific.

Marian Azer will take on the dual role of managing director, head of RBC I&TS product management, Asia Pacific and chief operating officer, global client coverage, Australia.

Azer will be responsible for both the design and execution of the RBC I&TS product strategy in APAC, and governance for all client coverage activities in Australia.

She joins from J.P. Morgan where she served as head of product, investor services. She has also held senior roles with Mercer and BNP Paribas.

Head of RBC I&TS Australia, David Travers said Azer is joining the business at an exciting time, following investment in technology and people to enhance its position in Australia, which he described as a ‘strategically important’ market.

“Globally, we are focused on being a specialist provider, delivering market-leading products and technology that evolve with our clients’ needs. With Marian’s background and strong expertise, we are well placed to bolster our product offering in Australia and Asia,” RBC I&TS global head of product Paul Stillabower added.

Azer’s appointment follows that of David Brown, who recently joined RBC I&TS in Sydney to lead client coverage across Australia.
Brown brings 29 years’ experience in financial services, largely in custody and asset management. He was most recently, executive director, sales and relationship management, J.P. Morgan Australia.

“As we look to grow market share in the region, David’s proven track record for developing businesses, coupled with his deep industry experience will significantly bolster our competitive position,” Travers said.

Internationally, RBC I&TS has made recently made a raft of senior appointments including, Pat Sanderson and Hong Paterson to head client coverage activities in the UK and Singapore; Annette Niebuhr, Geert Pick and Aneet Shah within its product management group; and Wendy Phillis to lead governance and regulatory solutions in Europe and APAC.
