Asia’s private banking community can relish in the fact that one of its very own lends a hand to head Sri Lanka’s central bank, following the storied rise to presidency of common opposition candidate, Maithripala Sirisena.
Former HSBC Private Bank chief strategist, Arjuna Mahendran, will join the Sri Lankan government as its new central banking head. Mahendran will be greeted with familiar faces as he had held multiple senior positions with both the Sri Lankan central bank and ministry of finance.
Mahendran was most recently CIO of Emirates NBD following a five-year stint with HSBC Private Bank in Asia. Previously he had also worked with the likes of Credit Suisse and the World Bank.
