EFG has named Credit Suisse’s former APAC Vice Chairman as a candidate for its board of directors, according to media release from the bank on Friday.
Tee Fong Seng’s candidacy at EFG marks the second senior Asian private banker to stand for a board position in recent months. Earlier, VP Bank named Thomas Meier, a former Asian head at Julius Baer, in a similar capacity.
EFG’s investors will vote to confirm Tee’s position at its upcoming annual general meeting (AGM). Both EFG and VP Bank are due to hold their next AGM on 27 April.
The announcement closely follows Tee’s appointment as chair of the Asia advisory board late last year, where he continues to “work closely regional management under the leadership of Albert Chiu to support the expansion of EFG’s business in Asia”, accordingly to a pervious media release.
Before EFG, Tee was APAC vice chairman for Credit Suisse’s private banking unit. Previously, he served as Hong Kong branch chief executive and market head for Greater China. He passed reins of the latter role to Francois Monnet in December 2015.
Tee is the only former private banker of the three new board candidates for EFG.
The other individuals named as candidates for EFG’s board include John Spiro Latsis, of the prominent Latsis family, and Stuart Robinson, an expert in Swiss regulatory, accounting and tax affairs.
