US-based asset manager State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) has appointed Marcus Miholich as managing director and head of capital markets for Asia Pacific and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
Mr. Miholich, who will continue to be based in London, reports to Tim Coyne, global head of capital markets for SSGA’s global SPDR business, the company says in a statement on June 26.
SPDR refers to a family of exchange-traded funds (ETF) traded in the US, Europe and Asia Pacific and managed by SSGA.
A spokesperson for SSGA tells Asia Asset Management that Mr. Miholich succeeds Paul Young, who has left the company “to pursue other opportunities”.
Mr. Coyne says Mr. Miholich “brings a wealth of ETF and trading experience to our team and we look forward to working with him to strengthen our capability in this critical function”.
According to Mr. Coyne, SSGA’s capital markets team “perform an integral role as subject matter experts on ETF trading” amid a “fragmented and complex” European and Asia Pacific trading world.
“Their knowledge of the ETF ecosystem and relationships with market makers and authorised participants ensure that when clients trade our funds, they can access the liquidity they require at the right price point and with appropriate execution costs,” he says in the statement.
Mr. Miholich joined SSGA in October 2017 and was head of Nordics of the company’s ETF business before his latest appointment.
He was previously managing director and head of Delta One, ETF, and cash equity trading in the London office of Shanghai-based Haitong Securities.
Prior to that, he spent eight years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and has also held senior positions in sales and trading at JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley.
SSGA, the asset management arm of State Street Corp, had US$2.8 trillion of assets under management at the end of 2017.
