London-based Investec Asset Management (Investec) has appointed Lerong Kang to the newly-created position of head of advisor, Southeast Asia.
Based in Singapore, she will be responsible for managing and driving Investec’s advisory business in the region, the company says in a statement on August 2.
She reports to Kevin Kong, head of the company’s Singapore office.
An Investec spokeswoman tells Asia Asset Management that the position was created because the company “is committed to strengthening its presence in Southeast Asia and broadening client activity in the region”.
“We see ample opportunities in Southeast Asia amid growing wealth in the region. The appointment of Ms. Kang is part of the effort and we are confident about the value-add she will bring to the team,” she says.
Ms. Kang was previously an executive director at UBS Private Bank Wealth Management for over five years, where she developed strategies and drove sales in Greater China.
Prior to that, she was head of business planning at Eastspring Asset Management in Singapore, focusing on fund distribution.
According to Mark Samuelson, managing director of Investec Asset Management Asia Pacific, Ms. Kang “will be vital to our continuous growth in Singapore as well as Asia”.
“We are incredibly excited about the company’s prospects in the region, and are delighted to welcome Ms. Kang as part of our team. We look forward to leveraging her on-the-ground expertise in delivering first-class client servicing,” he says in the statement.
Investec had US$146 billion of assets under management as at the end of March 2018.
