Geraldine Buckingham will replace Ryan Stork, who will be assuming another role within the firm.
Blackrock has appointed Buckingham as chair and head of Blackrock Asia-Pacific, effective February next year, according to a statement from the firm.
Buckingham is the firm’s senior managing director and global head of corporate strategy and a member of the firm’s global executive committee. Currently based in New York, Buckingham will relocate to Hong Kong for her new role.
Buckingham will be responsible for all business activities in the region, which includes Greater China, Japan, Australia, Singapore, India and Korea.
Buckingham joined Blackrock in 2014, and was previously a partner at McKinsey & Company’s financial services practice in New York, according to the statement.
She will be replacing Ryan Stork, who has been appointed as deputy global chief operating officer, also effective February. Stork will be relocating to New York from Hong Kong.
Stork has been with the firm since 1999, and has held several leadership roles, including global head of Blackrock’s Aladdin business and deputy institutional head for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
As of the end of September, the firm managed around $6.44trn in assets globally.
