State Street Global Advisors (SSGA), the asset management arm of State Street Corporation, has appointed Alex Sun to the newly created position of managing director and head of China to help spearhead the company’s long-term plan in a “strategically important” market.
He will also head SSGA’s newly established wholly-foreign owned enterprise (WFOE) in China.
Mr. Sun, who is based in Shanghai, will be responsible for formulating and implementing SSGA’s business plan for China. He reports to June Wong, the company’s head of Asia ex-Japan.
Mr. Sun brings to SSGA over 15 years of asset management experience in China, a country which offers “significant long-term growth potential” to the company, according to Ms. Wong.
“With his on-the-ground expertise and relationships, Mr. Sun will utilise our investment management WFOE in Shanghai as a springboard to help SSGA build out our long-term business plan in this sizable and strategically important market,” she says in a statement on March 12.
Mr. Sun comes to SSGA after a 12-year tenure at HSBC Jintrust, HSBC Global Asset Management’s China joint venture, where he was assistant general manager.
He has also worked as head of e-commerce at Societe Generale Asset Management’s China joint venture Fortune SGAM Fund Management, and as regional sales manager for Hong Kong’s E Fund Management.
US-based SSGA had US$2.51 trillion of assets under management at the end of 2018.
