UBS has hired a nine-year HSBC veteran to bolster its business with wealthy Japanese.
Zurich-based UBS has hired Yoshikazu Kato as a vice-chairman for its wealth management operations in Japan, according to an internal memo seen by finews.asia and confirmed by UBS spokesperson in Japan, Jason Kendy.
The long-time HSBC Japan banker was most recently an advisor in the investment banking unit of the British-Asian bank, and was head of Japan until last year.
Previously, the Stanford-educated Kato worked for MUFG from 2004 until 2008, including in the Middle East.
In his new role Kato will support the coverage and acquisition of new clients, and work closely with client advisors (CA’s) in providing clients with access to the integrated services available from the Group.
