Veteran Greater China banker resurfaces at European rival.
A Managing Director and Deputy Market Head, Private Banking at Standard Chartered has resurfaced at rival BNP Paribas a few months after his resignation from the emerging markets major. Peter Lam, who was part of a trio of bankers who moved to Standard Chartered in 2017 from HSBC Private Bank, is the newest addition to BNP Paribas’ Asia team. Lam, who has over three decades of China banking experience, has previously worked with UBS and Citibank.
BNP Paribas was believed to be hunting for senior bankers for its North Asia business after a spate of resignations, including that of veteran China banker and Market Head Alfred Tsai late last year.
