Chinese Wealth Management House Recruits Ex-McKinsey Luminary As Group President

The Chinese wealth management house has appointed a former McKinsey man as its group president.

Noah Holdings, the Chinese wealth and asset management firm, has appointed Kenny Lam to be group president. He was previously a global senior partner at McKinsey and he takes up his new role immediately.

Privately held Matthews International Capital Management LLC hired Derek Chow as head of U.S. intermediary distribution.

Based in San Francisco, Chow will be responsible for leading the firm’s U.S. intermediary business, including family office, broker dealer and private bank clients.

Fengate Capital Management Ltd. (“Fengate Capital”), one of Canada’s leading alternative asset management firms, has opened an office in Australia as part of their international investment strategy. The office, located in Sydney , will be the headquarters for Fengate’s Asia-Pacific operations. Mr. Greg Osborne has been appointed Managing Director – Head of Asia-Pacific to lead these operations.

The board of Platinum Asset Management has appointed a non-executive independent director.

Stephen Menzies will be Platinum’s fourth non-executive independent directors and will join the other four executive directors at the company’s board.

Menzies is also a director of Century Australia Investments and chairman of the Centre for Quantum Computation & Communication Technology.

He retired as a partner at Ashurst law firm last year and until his retirement was consistently ranked as one of Australia’s leading corporate lawyers.

As head of China practice for Ashurst, he oversaw the Shanghai and Beijing offices of that firm and as a senior lawyer he managed legal work of significant projects in capital markets and mergers including some of the largest transactions in Australia.

“We welcome Stephen because his legal background will complement the skills of other directors,” Platinum chairman Michael Cole said.

The global head of insurance coverage at HSBC GAM in Hong Kong is moving to Tokyo next month to be CEO of the bank’s Japan asset management operation. The current CEO, Sean Matsuda is retiring.

Patrice Conxicoeur, global head of insurance coverage at HSBC Global Asset Management (HSBC GAM), is moving to Tokyo to take up the role of chief executive for HSBC GAM Japan.
