Former ANZ NRI banker moves to BNP Paribas Wealth Management

In a bid to bolster its frontline and tap a market of investors with US$2.1 trillion in wealth, BNP Paribas Wealth Management hires a former ANZ non-resident (NRI) banker to its team.

Sunita Malik joins the French leader as a relationship manager covering Indian markets based in Singapore. She will report to Akshay Jaitley, managing director and NRI head of North Asia, also based in Singapore.

Asia’s private banking community can relish in the fact that one of its very own lends a hand to head Sri Lanka’s central bank, following the storied rise to presidency of common opposition candidate, Maithripala Sirisena.

Former HSBC Private Bank chief strategist, Arjuna Mahendran, will join the Sri Lankan government as its new central banking head. Mahendran will be greeted with familiar faces as he had held multiple senior positions with both the Sri Lankan central bank and ministry of finance.

Capital Group hires former Morgan Stanley Investment Management Hong Kong Head of Sales

In an effort to bolster its coverage of institutional and financial intermediary relationships, including private banks, Capital Group hires a former head of Hong Kong sales from Morgan Stanley’s asset management arm.

Stanley Chan joins the American asset manager as a relationships manager, responsible for expanding Capital Group’s institutional and financial intermediary relationships in Hong Kong. Previously, Chan worked for the likes of Morgan Stanley Investment Management, Wellington Global Investment Management and Merrill Lynch Investment Managers.

Bank of Singapore snaps up ex-Coutts NRI banker

Singaporean private bank, Bank of Singapore, adds to its non-resident Indian (NRI) team, adding a former Coutts banker to its roster.

After almost two years with Coutts, Rohit Punjabi moves to Bank of Singapore as a senior wealth management director. Based in the Lion City, Punjabi reports to Nikhil Advani, who heads the NRI team in Singapore.

Standard Chartered’s Private Bank Adds To NRI Offering

Standard Chartered Private Bank, part of UK-listed Standard Chartered, has confirmed that a banker working in the non-resident Indian space has joined the firm in Hong Kong.

Prior to joining Standard Chartered, Nitin Birla had been executive director and team head at Bank of China International in Hong Kong and also had spells with both RBS Coutts and Barclays Wealth (as the wealth arm of Barclays used to be known).

HSBC Private Bank shuffles senior execs

HSBC Private Bank has promoted Christopher Marquis from Asia head to global head of private wealth solutions (PWS) as of January 1.

The role was previously part of the remit of Bernard Rennell, who remains Asia-Pacific head of global private banking and to whom Marquis still reports.
