J Safra Sarasin poaches senior exec from UBS WM

Bank J Safra Sarasin has appointed Vinay Gandhi as its managing director and CEO for its new ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) Asia division.

Gandhi, based in Singapore, assumed his role today, according to a Hong Kong-based spokeswoman from the firm.

DBS Group, Southeast Asia’s largest bank, is looking for a new chief investment officer for its expanding wealth management division to replace Lim Say Boon, who is retiring after serving seven years, people familiar with the matter told CNBC.

The search comes amid the well-documented rise of the super-rich in Asia and associated demand for wealth management products. Still, Lim’s successor faces multiple challenges, including fierce competition for clients, fee and margin pressure and tighter regulation.

Asia’s largest wealth manager UBS, has recruited a seasoned wealth manager into its Singapore business.

Bert Stegink joins the Swiss firm from ABN Amro Private Bank. The Dutch bank sold its wealth units in Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai to Liechtenstein’s LGT in December 2016. Stegink joined UBS earlier this month.

Credit Suisse has created a wealth planning services team within its private banking business in Asia Pacific, headed by Bernard Fung.

This new unit will leverage the existing capabilities of the firm’s family office services and philanthropy advisory (including responsible and impact investing), currently led by Fung, with those of the trust and estate advisory team in Singapore.

Indosuez Wealth Management, the global wealth management division of French Crédit Agricole Group, has appointed new members to its Middle East Team.

Nancy Sebaali and Rolf Schilde (pictured below) will join as Middle East Team Leaders in Dubai and Geneva, respectively, according to a press relase from Indosuez. Both will also be part of the Middle East Management Committee and will report to the Global Head of the Middle East region, François R. Farjallah.
