Indonesian Tax Amnesty Gets Serious Backing

When it was first launched it was met with doubts that it would be taken seriously. However high profile businessman Sofjan Wanandi along with well known property tycoon James Riady requested tax amnesty recently for their undeclared assets, the «Jakarta Post» reports.

The participation of what the government hopes to be the first wave of significant business figures participating in what has become known as President Joko Widodo’s signature policy, is sure to put peer pressure on those of similar wealth and social status.

Anuj Khanna to Lead ABN Amro Private Banking in Southeast Asia

The former CEO of Pictet in Asia has been named as the new head of Private Banking Southeast at ABN Amro’s Singapore unit. He will take on the role with immediate effect.

ABN Amro Private Banking Asia & Middle East announced the appointment, Anuj Khanna as head of Private Banking for South East Asia effective September 1, 2016 in a statement today.

Falcon Private Bank Appoints Walter Berchtold as CEO

Switzerland-based Falcon Private Bank Ltd. said Thursday that it has appointed board member Walter Berchtold as chief executive officer, effective Oct. 1.

Mr. Berchtold, 54, will succeed Eduardo Leemann, who will remain with the bank as a senior adviser.

Julius Baer Keeps Hiring in Asia

Julius Baer has continued its impressive hiring record for 2016 with the appointment of a new chief investment officer, Asia, with simultaneous responsibility as head investment management Asia.

Julius Baer has established a new chief investment officer (CIO) function in Asia. This new CIO function will be held by Bhaskar Laxminarayan with immediate effect. Based in Singapore, he will also head the Asia Investment Management division, the bank said ina statement on Thursday.

Leusse, 44, was deputy chief executive and chief financial officer of Credit Agricole CIB.

ABN Amro Private Bank cuts International clients team in Singapore

According to reports published by Asian Private Banker [Link], “ABN AMRO Private Banking has made further staff cuts in Asia, including to its Singapore-based international clients team. However, Hans Hanegraaf, country executive ABN AMRO Singapore and head of private banking Asia & Middle East, tells Asian Private Banker that the changes are an inevitable outcome of difficult market conditions and strategic refinement, and that the bank is now focusing on its core strengths in the region.“

Regulator set to launch robo-advisor test bed

South Korea will soon begin the process of introducing a full-fledged computer-advised asset management system, the nation’s financial regulator said Sunday.

Some brokerage firms here have operated robo-advisors on a limited basis with brokers involved.

KKR Announces New Country Heads

Global investment firm KKR has expanded its Asia Pacific leadership team with appointments in China, Korea, and Singapore. The firms flagship $6 billion Asian Fund II is the largest private equity vehicle raised in Asia.

American firm KKR has announced several additions to its private equity investment team in Asia, specifically a change in leadership in China and the addition of new senior investment talent in China, Singapore and Korea.

Ivan Guidi has been appointed Deputy Sub Regional Head for Emerging Asia and Senior Client Advisor for UHNW Philippines Reporting to Angela Bow. He was previously Head of Offshore Markets ex-Greater China at Julius Baer and is based in Hong Kong.
