Standard Chartered has appointed Alison May Chan as managing director, UHNW Solutions, private banking clients, Greater China. The appointment was effective from 12 January.

Based in Hong Kong, Chan is part of the global UHNW team and will focus on developing the business in Greater China. HSBC Private Bank has promoted Christopher Marquis from Asia head to global head of private wealth solutions (PWS) as of January 1.

The role was previously part of the remit of Bernard Rennell, who remains Asia-Pacific head of global private banking and to whom Marquis still reports.

In his new role, which became effective January 1, Marquis is responsible for the bank’s private wealth business around the world.

Principal Global Investors has reshuffled two key management roles – Kirk West and Andrea Muller – for the firm’s offshore operations, to accelerate growth and strengthen leadership of non-US business.

As of the start of 2015, Muller moved on from her role in Singapore as Asia chief executive officer (CEO), relocating to the US as head of international distribution. She has assumed responsibility for all sales, relationship management and client service activities in Asia Pacific (including Japan and Australia), Europe, the Middle East and Latin America.

State Street Corporation has appointed Wai Kwong Seck, head of State Street’s global services and global markets businesses in Asia Pacific, to its management committee.

Also promoted to the management committee, the company’s senior-most strategy and policy making group, is Gunjan Kedia, who heads the company’s investment servicing capabilities in the Americas for mutual fund, insurance and institutional clients.

Asia’s largest private bank by assets under management (AUM), UBS, has appointed a new RMM (regional market manager) for India, Indochina, Philippines and Global Investors according to an internal announcement by the bank this morning.

In what is unequivocally seen as a career advancement, Vinay Gandhi, the bank’s erstwhile country team head for India international and deputy regional market manager, will take over from Andi Reber – the man who recruited Gandhi into the bank in 2010 – as RMM for Malaysia, India, Indochina & Philippines and financial intermediaries group. Reber will continue at UBS in a different role.

Credit Suisse hires a private banker of 35 years’ experience from Citi to head its ultra-high net worth (UHNW) business in the Middle East, according to a statement from the Swiss financial institution.

Muwafwfak Bibi joins the Swiss lender as head of UHNW, Middle East, based in Geneva. Bibi will report to Bruno Daher, chief executive of Credit Suisse Middle East. Bibi was also the chairman of Citi Private Bank in the Middle East and North Africa since 1999.

Nomura, the Japanese banking giant, has appointed former senior Morgan Stanley wealth manager Amanda Chen as deputy head of wealth management Asia ex-Japan, this publication can exclusively report.
