Pimco hires Bernanke as senior adviser

Former Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke is joining bond giant Pimco as a senior adviser, as the firm seeks to bolster its star power following the departure of co-founder Bill Gross.

The move may be questioned by some competitors who had criticized the Fed during Bernanke’s reign for being too close to Pimco, whose full name is Pacific Investment Management Co. The critics suggested that could have potentially given the Newport Beach, California-based firm an advantage in interpreting monetary policy.

Coutts’ global head of active advisory exits

The global active advisory head for Coutts has left after 17 years at the bank.

At Coutts Quentin Marshall was responsible for bank’s global active advisory teams in London, Zurich, Hong Kong and Singapore, based in London. Marshall oversaw clients who wanted to play an active role in managing their portfolios with advice from Coutts.

A relationship manager has moved to Standard Chartered Private Bank after more than two years at Bank of China International (BOCI).

Jenny Zheng has joined Standard Chartered Private Bank, also as relationship manager. She will be based in Hong Kong.

BNP Paribas Wealth Management adds ex-Citi banker

BNP Paribas Wealth Management’s Hong Kong office has added another relationship manager, this time from Citi Private Bank.

Matthew Lee joins French lender’s private banking arm as a relationship manager. Lee previously spent a decade with Citi, most recently as a relationship manager with its private bank.

Standard Chartered Private Bank loses Indonesia market head

A career banker and market head for Indonesia has resigned from Standard Chartered Private Bank.

Torsten Linke, who had been with the bank since May 2009, is believed to be leaving to continue his private banking elsewhere. Linke is based in Singapore.

EFG International Confirms Changes At The Top; New CEO To Take Over

The Zurich-listed private banking firm that operates in various regions including Asia has confirmed a series of top-level proposed executive moves.

EFG International yesterday confirmed that it has appointed Joachim Straehle as its new chief executive, who takes the helm from John Williamson, who will become vice chairman and will be proposed as chairman at next year’s annual general meeting.
