Financial services group Manulife has announced a change at the top, with a new Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
Linda Mantia will commence her new role on October 3rd 2016, she will be a member of the Executive Committee and the global leadership team, and will lead approximately 7,100 people around the world, including in Asia’s wealth hubs.

Fitch warns of over-reliance on wealth management products by smaller Chinese banks

Fitch Ratings is warning that an over-reliance on wealth management products (WMPs) is putting China’s mid-tier banks and smaller financial institutions under increasing credit and liquidity risks.

In a note issued on Tuesday, the agency said that sales growth of WMPs slowed to a two-year low in the first six months of this year, dragged by declining investment returns.

Credit Suisse: New Global Markets Head

Credit Suisse veteran Timothy O’Hara has stepped down as CEO of Global Markets. His successor comes from within the Swiss bank. Asset Management chief Eric Varvel gets an additional promotion.

Credit Suisse announced on Wednesday that Tim O’Hara will be succeeded by Brian Chin, currently Co-Head of Credit, as CEO of Global Markets.

Chin will join the Executive Board of Credit Suisse Group. The bank also announced that Eric Varvel is appointed President and CEO of Credit Suisse Holdings (USA), in addition to his current responsibilities as Global Head of Asset Management.

Lyxor Asset Management appoints Laurent Renaud as CEO in Japan

Lyxor Asset Management has appointed Laurent Renaud as chief executive in Japan, effective immediately. He replaces Toshiro Kubozono who has retired after nine years in the role.

Based in Tokyo, Renaud (pictured) reports to Lionel Paquin, chief executive officer of Lyxor Asset Management, and locally to Raphael Cheminat, group country head for Japan, Societe Generale.

BNP Paribas Investment Partners (BPIP) has appointed Christian Bucaro, head of private wealth for BNP Paribas Investment Partners, Asia Pacific (APAC), as chief executive officer for Singapore, effective September 2.

Mr. Bucaro takes over the role from Puay-Lit Tan, who has taken time off to pursue his personal interests.

After four years in Asia, Patrick Grossholz will relocate back to the bank’s Switzerland headquarters to serve in a global role.

Grossholz was appointed global head of IPS portfolio specialists within the IPS global distribution management, according to an internal memo seen by FSA.

He will report to Dominic Vail, head of investment products and services (IPS) global distribution management, based in Zurich.
